So my lovely lady snoop just had her back right leg removed yesterday. She had a subdermal hemangiosarcoma. She was in a lot of pain beforehand, and now that her grapefruit size tumor is gone, she seems to be doing really well. Her bum is all wiggly, not to mention she is excited that she gets to eat spoonfuls of philadelphia cheesecake filling three times a day. She doesn’t know her medicine is in there, and I won’t be the one to break the news to her. Ignorance is bliss.
I put off this amputation because I thought that it would destroy her, or that she wouldnt know how to get around and would give up. But actually it’s the exact opposite! She has a new lease on life for however long she has left. I couldnt be happier that I did this. I have seen her move so quick in weeks!
So, day 1 of recovery is going really well. She’s definitely in a little pain, and cried a lot of last night before her next pain pills were due, but this morning she is back to the upbeat, crazy dog I knows and love.

It’s a tough decision, and a lot of us tend to second guess it, but I’m glad you went ahead and did it. Just seeing the relief from the pain is usually enough to let us know we did the right thing.
Don’t freak out if the first couple of weeks seem a little up and down. We all experience this. A lot of times they seem like they’re doing really, really well one day, only to follow that by a bit of a crash the next. This is pretty normal.

Welcome to Tripawds! The first couple of weeks post amputation surgery are hellish, but you’ll get through them.
It is so much harder for us, than for them. They adapt so quickly.
I am interested in hearing more about Snoop’s HSA diagnosis. Butchey lost his his right rear back in june to HSA. There are not a ton of us HSA amputees out here, as you have probably found out.
Sending positive thoughts for a speedy recovery!!! Let’s kick hemangiosarcoma’s butt!

Grapefruit? Owwwwww!
It’s OK, lots of humans delay the decision. Silly people just don’t seem to have the faith that we can do great on three legs. Now that Snoop is a Tripawd, she can go around spreading the news that every day is a great day, and life is good even when you think it’s not.
Hang in there, the recovery will be over before you know it.
